Apropos of nothing, a Racked reader writes us with an entirely unbiased and non-shilly update on the only gym on the LES, the spectacular Ludlow Fitness. It reads:
I was one of the first people to join Ludlow Fitness in 2006, months before it opened. It's just gone past its 1st anniversary & is as impressive as ever. Nicely-staffed, clean, well-maintained, with a good selection of machines and a variety of classes (also, unusual touches, like the free apples at the front desk). I didn't go much the first year (laziness & apathy), but reading "Younger Next Year" has prompted me to actually turn up this year, almost daily. Here's what I've witnessed so far: the owner himself inspecting & polishing up the machines; anything that's 'out of order' one day, up & running the next; the cleaning staff really giving the bathrooms a good scrubbing; help & advice on machines, exercises, etc., from both staff & fellow members (for those who are new to the gym thing). All-in-all, it's a pleasant experience, thanks to the people who run it & the way it's run. It's one of the best things to happen to the LES in recent years.....well, in my opinion, anyway. The BEST thing to happen to the LES recently? That's quite a bold statement. Let's not forget Blue, now.
